Free online typing test
01 - OVERVIEWNinja Typing is a free typing speed test where you can measure your typing speed in words per minute (WPM) and your accuracy in seconds — no sign-up, no download, and no cost. Start typing in the box above and the test begins on your first keystroke, ending with a full report card that shows your net WPM, raw WPM, accuracy, and the exact keys that slowed you down.
Every test uses the standard five-character word formula — the same method professional typing assessments use — so each five characters you type count as one word and mistakes lower your net score. You can choose easy, medium, or hard passages and a duration of 1, 3, 5, or 10 minutes, so the practice matches whatever you are working toward, whether that is a faster everyday typing speed, a job assessment, or a government exam.
Beyond the general speed test, Ninja Typing offers exam-accurate practice for SSC, Railway, CPCT and other government posts, corporate formats for call center, BPO and data-entry roles, coding drills in real programming languages, Hindi typing in Mangal and Krutidev, and language tests in Indonesian and Spanish. Whatever your goal, you can practice in a format that mirrors the real thing.

Frequently asked questions
05 - FAQIs Ninja Typing free to use?
Yes. Ninja Typing is completely free. There is no registration, no login, no download, and no subscription. You can take as many typing tests as you like, switch between difficulty levels and durations, and practice for exams or jobs at no cost.
How is my typing speed (WPM) calculated?
We use the standard five-character word formula. Every five characters you type — including spaces — count as one word. Your raw WPM is the total words typed divided by the minutes elapsed, while your net WPM subtracts your mistakes first, so accuracy directly affects your final score. Results also show your accuracy percentage and the keys where you made the most errors.
What is a good typing speed?
Beginners typically type 15 to 25 WPM, an average typist reaches 30 to 40 WPM, and professionals often exceed 60 WPM. Most office, data-entry, and support jobs expect 35 to 45 WPM with at least 95% accuracy, and many government typing tests require 30 to 35 WPM. Accuracy matters more than raw speed, because every error lowers your net WPM.
Do I need to create an account?
No. You can start typing immediately — the test begins on your first keystroke and your report card appears the moment you finish. All scoring happens in your browser, and your results are never uploaded or stored on our servers.
Can I practice for government and job typing exams?
Yes. Ninja Typing has exam-accurate practice modes for SSC CGL, SSC CHSL, Railway NTPC, CPCT, DSSSB, High Court LDC and more — each with the correct duration, WPM target, and backspace rule. There are also corporate formats for call center, BPO, chat support, and data-entry roles, plus coding, Hindi, Indonesian, and Spanish typing tests.
How can I improve my typing speed?
Practice for 15 to 20 minutes every day, focus on accuracy before speed, and keep your fingers on the home row (ASDF and JKL;) without looking at the keyboard. Start with easy passages to build muscle memory, then move to medium and hard text. Reviewing the error breakdown after each test and retyping the words you missed builds consistency the fastest.
